The star of Udon Thani and my favorite spot in the city, Nong Prachak public park is a vibrant and peaceful destination popular with tourists and locals.
In early evenings, the park buzzes to life with locals playing sports, people walking around the lakes, musicians playing in the grass, and vendors selling sticks of succulent meat and other Thai market foods.
The park is set on a large lake. Bike/ running path goes around the perimeter of the lake, however, there isn’t much shade for runners. A long row of local restaurants lines the east side of the lake on Tasa Road. On the islands there is much more shade, along with a fitness area and children’s play area, plus a designated tai chi practice area, which was a great surprise!
Now to find out when people are practicing…

The head monk at Wat Pa Phu Kon announced that the popular temple would reopen tomorrow on June 3rd, 2020. He mentioned that masks must be worn and social distancing rules should be observed. Temperature checks will be taken before admission and only 15 people will be allowed to worship at any one time.
The Wat Pa Phu Kon temple complex was built between 2010 and 2013. The construction cost 320 million Thai baht, with the funds used for construction being donated by a Thai donor in honor of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The complex is centered around the Great Wihan, the largest component of the temple. In addition, a number of smaller buildings are located around the complex. One of the most notable features of the temple is a 65-foot long statue of a reclining Buddha. Said statue was built with white marble blocks imported from Italy and then sculpted in Thailand. The temple also features a 25-meter high golden stupa.
How to get there:
The best way is to travel along Highway No. 1 (Phaholyothin Road) to Saraburi on Highway 2 (Mittraphap Road) via Nakhon Ratchasima. Turn left to Ban Phu and Na Yung until you reach Ban Na Kham Yai. You will have to turn to Wat Pa Phu Kon. The total distance is about 657 kilometers and takes approximately 10 hours.
You could hire a taxi or rent a car from Udon Thani. The distance from downtown Udon Thani to Wat Phu Kon is 125 kilometers and takes about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Massage in Udon Thani – Traditional

Thai Massage in Udon Thani at The Irish Clock
Traditional Thai massage in Udon Thani, commonly known by its native name, Nuad Bo-Rarn, has been around for over 2,500 years.
Traditional Thai massage in Udon Thani uses no oils or lotions. The recipient remains clothed during a treatment. There is constant body contact between the giver and receiver, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked.
During the massage, you will be pulled, stretched, and rocked at the hands of your Thai massage therapist. They will use every part of their body in order to do this, including their thumbs, elbows, and knees. Some masseuses might even walk on you. This approach is completely different than massages that Westerners are used to. You are not kneaded, and Thai massages certainly are not gentle. It is important to note that oftentimes, Thai massages can feel like unpleasant, if not painful experiences. Usually, the masseuse will make it more or less intense depending on a person’s size and age. In case they seem to be unaware of the pain they are inflicting, tell them jep, which means hurt.
